Without the performance of General, Yanqing feels like Jing Yuan, all child-like wonder with his mouth agape. (If Yanqing was soft and round like a child, could he look at them differently?) To Ren and Jingliu, mercy and forgiveness are not one and the same, and Yanqing cannot grant both.

“Oh, doubtless, doubtless.” That’s never been in much question. Jing Yuan is tough. He’s taken everything the world’s thrown at him through the years and come through without a scratch. It would be incredibly ungrateful to complain about that.
