“I’m not pining,” Yorimitsu says.
It’s a lie. It’s a really obvious lie. He’s absolutely pining. Shuten would know what that looks like — hell, he spends so much time doing it himself they should just change his title to King of Pining.
Shuten doesn’t say any of that, though.
Instead, he just gives Yorimitsu a look of pure disbelief, gesturing at the vaguely soldier-shaped magic construct hovering around behind Yorimitsu’s shoulder. “You literally named that fucking thing Onikiri.”

Summary
Not even the hard training he had to go through as a swordsman prepared him for the excruciating pain that felt like a stab to his chest when he realized what had happened to Onikiri. It wasn’t something related to his blood contract or the amount of wounds he carried from the current battle, but something else; terrifying and agonizing as if his soul was sucked from his own body.
He walked toward the pieces of his sword and held it on his hands, a blade that was no more when the waves ceased.
Minamoto no Yorimitsu sucked in air, his lungs were burning, his mouth was dry and his fingers trembled; the shed of tears was unavoidable, but he didn’t allow himself that amount of empathy.
(Tiny spoilers about the long journey of Yorimitsu to get back SP Onikiri, actually I wrote this before reading the Sealand event, in base to the spicy spoilers lol, I hope y'all have fun reading, I'm coping with my pain.)
