Summary
“Hmpf,” Robby says, after the first run-through on Monday morning when Frank has felt like a fucking pervert for running running his hands down Mel’s soft side, over and over again, because the choreography requires it. It didn’t really help that he couldn’t sleep last night, feeling itchy and hot under the covers.
He’d tried the dancer’s version of counting sheep, blocking the ballet in his mind, going through all his steps.
He was just waiting in the wings, yam-pam-pam, Prokofiev’s score playing in his mind, watching Juliet and Paris dance at the ball. Juliet is polite, but bored. Yolanda always plays the bored part really well.
But then, thinking of how Juliet needs to slips out of Paris' hands on the beat and turn towards Romeo, it was suddenly Mel's face that looked at him expectantly, a soft flush on her cheeks.
Yikes.
Or: Royal Ballet principal Yolanda Garcia gets injured and Frank Langdon needs a new partner. Enter Mel King, a recent transfer from Pittsburgh Ballet.

Summary
Frank huffed, setting the mug down. “How many times are we going to have to go over this, Mel? I like listening to you talk. I’m not just being nice. We’re friends.”
“It’s important to ask,” she said, still watching him carefully. “Because sometimes people say they want to know something but they don’t actually mean that they do. They’re just being polite. And it’s hard for me to tell that, always.”
“I’ll tell you what,” he suggested. “Let’s make this easy. With me, you never have to ask. Consider it my… blanket approval, I guess.”
He pointed to himself. “I, Frank Langdon, am interested in what you have to say.”

Summary
What Mel wants, if she’s honest, is very simple: to not be on the floor, to be close to Dr. Langdon again, and to be as far from a lawsuit as possible. Preferably in some distant future where all of these problems are ancient history, and she no longer has an aching feeling when she remembers them.
Or; Mel hits her head and wakes up in the future, a little too close to her wish.

Summary
If Frank had ever thought about it before, which he hadn't, he’d probably conclude he likes physical touch about as much as the average person does.
It’s not like he minds it when people touch him, especially since he’s kind of oblivious about personal space. He often ends up brushing up against people or dropping a hand to a shoulder or bumping into someone in the Pitt, and he doesn’t tend to think twice about it beyond a quick apology when needed.
(And maybe he does some of that on purpose, when it comes to one coworker in particular, but again, this isn’t something Frank has ever thought about, so he definitely doesn’t dwell on what that means.)

Summary
Actually, Mel's excited about a lot of things going into the new school year. She’s excited to co-teach with Dr. Mohan and Mr. Langdon. She’s excited to continue supporting the kids on her caseload from the previous year, and she knows writing their IEPs will go so much better now that she knows them and their families a little. She’s excited that her Physics class will be entirely made up of students she taught in Chemistry the previous year; they were a great group.
There are things to worry about, too. Co-teaching with two new people again. The daily possibility that she’s going to do something overwhelmingly embarrassing in front of Langdon. Still not knowing where she should go during her prep periods. That she’s going to be just as alone as she’s always been at work, but with some added disappointment because she’s let her hopes get up, just a little.
There’s no way that she and Langdon can co-teach as well as she hopes. She’s sure her bubble will burst soon enough, that her crush will fade, and everything will settle back to baseline.
(It doesn't.)
