    Theon had watched him with wry amusement when he’d broken things off. Or tried to break things off at least. At that point, the fact that they worked together was one of the least of his concerns. What was an illicit secret relationship between coworkers next to an affair? Truth be told, you could barely have called it a relationship. More a series of steamy hookups in which Robb had learnt more about himself than he had in the rest of his other liaisons combined.

     

    He’d given him the same exact look the moment they realised they’d been roped into going on the same work getaway together.

    Theon hung around Robb like a shadow with teeth. When Robb learned to ride, Theon was there, clinging to the saddle behind him until he could keep up. When Robb first swung a practice sword, Theon took the bruises gladly just to stand close enough to smell the sweat on his neck. He told himself it was enough to be called “brother.” Enough to sleep in the same room during storms, enough to share cloaks and secrets and the warmth of the same hearth.

    It was never enough.

    He wanted to crawl inside Robb’s skin and live there. Wanted to wear his ribs like armor, feel every beat of that Stark heart against his own. Wanted to taste the salt of his sweat, the iron of his blood if it ever spilled, the hot spill of his seed if the gods ever granted him that single, impossible night.
