    Louis looks up from the flyer, and back at Niall. “You must be joking?”

    Niall shakes his head, his mischievous grin only going wider. “Nope! I already researched them. They have glowing reviews AND they’re affordable. It’s perfect!”

    He pauses then to give Louis a cheeky wink. “Besides their website says they’re full service.”

    (Or the one where Louis and his best mate Niall decide to take the plunge and open a pub. The goal is to open Christmas Day, but the building renovations are proving trickier than expected. Insert: a construction company with a questionable name, a certain curly haired builder who catches Louis’ attention, and a little festive chaos along the way).

    He hadn't meant to scent Harry. They were best friends and that was it. Scenting best friends wasn't exactly socially acceptable.

    "Lou," Harry whispered.

    Louis jumped at his name and sat up straighter to provide a bit of distance between himself and Harry.

    "You can't scent me, Lou," Harry stated.

    Which of course Louis couldn't scent him. They were best friends.

    "I mean," Harry continued. "I wouldn't mind exactly, but if I can't scent you, I don't think you should scent me."

    "What do you mean you can't scent me? I mean, I get it because we're best friends but..."

    "I mean I can't smell you, Louis. I fucking can't smell you. I can't smell anything, okay?"

    Or the one where Harry’s an alpha with no sense of smell, Louis’ an omega who isn’t allowed to scent his best friend, and that’s all they’ll ever be. Obviously.

    In the countless years Louis has now been “alive”, Louis has come to realize there is no point. Just, in general. It was once a freeing thought and he is willing to admit the nihilistic view of existence brought on quite a wild phase in the first few years he discovered and adopted it. Lots of nights he wasn’t sure he could remember properly. Lots of nights he has absolutely no interest in remembering at all.

    No perfect place would have the effect of making his thesis easier to write, of that Harry can be certain. Not for the first time, he wonders if he even belongs at the Academy. He’d gotten special permission to complete his programme mostly from home because of his particular circumstances. Still, the prestige and exclusivity associated with the Academy felt nothing like the way his magic actually... flowed.

    Louis is just trying to get through an infinite loop of endless workdays. Harry is just trying to get qualified as a witch. They both end up on a quest they didn't ask for, finding something they never expected somewhere along the way.
