Summary
When Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi turns half his age, the Jedi Order has no time to coddle him. He has to fight and participate like everyone else. The war waited for no one.
That did not mean he would be left alone, though.
The High Council was asking a lot of him, but whatever was taken would be given back. Obi-Wan was an esteemed and valued colleague, and they would protect him as much as they could.
For his part, seventeen-year-old Obi-Wan was a lost young man who was perplexed by all the attention he was receiving. He felt lonely no matter how many people he had around. He missed Qui-Gon.

Far in the past, thirty-five-year-old Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi was staring uncomprehendingly at a dead man. The dead man stared back at him in confusion. He then opened his mouth.

A month after Melidaan, Obi-wan drowns himself. Qui-Gon thinks it is just trauma. A childish reaction to the war.
He does not understand that Obi-wan is hearing a call older than the Jedi Order itself. And the closer Obi-wan gets to the water, the more the Force begins to answer back.
