Shane Hollander era um dos ômegas mais requisitados de sua aldeia, por sua beleza estonteante e sua pureza. Filho do único ferreiro do local, sempre seguiu à risca as tradições que um ômega de honra deveria adotar. Ilya Rozanov, um dos alfas guerreiros da aldeia, foi o único de sua espécie que teve seu pedido de cortejo aceito pelo próprio Hollander, durante o primeiro ritual de cortejo de sua vida.
Após um encontro noturno, Rozanov acaba por ter de passar a noite na casa de seu futuro ômega. No entanto, por conta das normas sobre o comportamento de alfas e ômegas, passadas de geração em geração, os dois não poderiam sequer ter contato durante a estadia de Ilya naquela noite — visto que eles ainda não eram casados. Mas Shane acaba por burlar uma delas e, no meio da madrugada, visita seu amado, com o intuito de dar-lhe um beijo de boa noite, porém, em meio a toques íntimos e envolventes, ele percebe que deseja dar muito além de apenas um beijo.
