"I'll make you a deal." Jiequan spun the dagger around, its bloodied tip catching light and leaving momentary arches in its wake. Qiuye remained in place, her will to stay both silent and still, ironclad.
"We'll spar. If I win, I'll have you find that elusive Solarian who'd messed up the maintenance and deliver them straight to me." His eyes left the dagger in search of Qiuye, leaving his hand to continue its careless movement unsupervised.
"Care to guess what'll happen if you win?"
"I get to ask whatever comes to mind of you?"
"You know the game."
"More than well enough." Qiuye drew her hook swords.

"You've changed, Jing Yuan."
They’ve both changed, hard to say if for the worse or better. Old, so ancient...one desperately wanted death, the second peace and a calm to his tired soul. However, neither of those has ever been fulfilled.
A light smile crept to the general’s face. A faked expression, one he learned to use so often...to the point he sometimes forgot to paint on a different mask. Jing Yuan hid the unending grief under a facade, just to stop everyone from being concerned about him.
That, however had zero chance of suceeding under Blade’s surveillance. “You’re...less honest, you conceal yourself.”

Summary
In the middle of the Origin Era, Penglai suffers from a shortage of resources. Due to the amount of rhizomatic energy used during the Turbulent Era, as well as the amount of stress and harm that had been placed on the Fusang roots, less and less resources had been harvested over the centuries. Wars, famine, and disease plague the solarian home world and soon secondary options have been scouted.
The Tiandao Corporation would have begun drilling deep beneath the earth and further down into the oceans to harvest rhizomatic fluid, which would soon be refined into energy. But as the old tale goes, some things should be left well enough alone. Yi and his fellow workers on the Kunlun Coast Rhizomatic Rig D would soon learn the terrible truth of what happens when something is exploited to the point of self-destruction.
