Eva Stratt and Ryland Grace met during university, and had a brief relationship, which ended in an extremely bitter and angry breakup.
Eva had vowed to never speak to Grace again, and was doing fairly well at upholding that promise! Until, she was made to employ him in the Petrova taskforce.
And, much to her dismay, he is just as —if not more— endearing as he was back then.Or-

“This is Ryland grace, reporting from the Hail Mary, and I’ve figured out how to save Earth.”
A hush fell over the room, so utterly complete that Stratt’s pounding heartbeat felt deafening. She inhaled deeply. Exhaled.
This was it. Everything she had worked towards had culminated into this one, singular moment. She felt nauseous with anticipation for it.

Or, the favorite second in command of the Petrova Taskforce, Dr. Ryland Grace, accidentally manages to have a Wii console set up on Stratt's Vatt. This fact sets off a very endearing series of events. Did he ever mention he was a fan of the Mario franchise, and more specifically, that he was very good at New Super Mario Bros for the Wii?

“Everyone,” she announced, her voice somehow carrying through the crowded room, “I have decided we must bring order to the chaos.” The dramatic pause was definitely intentional. “We must predict the future,” she said, and then motioned for someone behind her.
Everyone stared as Dubois rolled out a whiteboard.
“I present to you,” Ilyukhina said somehow even more dramatically, Dubois slowly flipping the board to reveal something written on it, “The Stratt’s Vat Betting Pool!”Or, Ilyukhina starts a betting pool on the Vat.
