Summary
Harvey slowly came to; he wasn’t at home, that much he realized right away. The mattress was a little too hard, too worn out, definitely didn’t have his soft silk sheets. But that wasn’t all.
There was the weight of a body lying right next to him, hot skin against his own exposed chest. He smirked a little to himself. The best way to wake up.

For a moment, Mike’s too surprised to understand, but he relaxes into the embrace. It’s sweet and rare, and Mike’s learned to savor these, hoard them for later. He exhales more tension than he’d been aware of at the feel of Harvey’s cheek against his own, but still. A Christmas gift, just a taste, maybe enough to hold onto and then -
Harvey presses his lips to Mike’s temple, and Mike makes this raw, cramped sound into the front of Harvey’s peacoat. A warm hand comes up to cup the back of his head.
“Oh, kid,” Harvey says softly.
Mike sniffs hard and tries to anticipate whatever jab is coming next. “What’re you gonna do with me, huh?”
But Harvey just squeezes him a little tighter. “Idiot. That plan’s never changed. I'm gonna keep you.”

Summary
Harvey’s smiling, soft in a way that Mike recognizes, but after a few weeks without it, it's easier to note the intimacy, the surprising fondness from a man so guarded. It disarms him, and without thinking Mike reaches up to brush his fingers along Harvey's cheekbone then down the sinew of his neck.
A hand shoots up and circles Mike's wrist, jerking him away.
“Shit, sorry,” Mike breathes. “I -” For a breath, the overwhelming longing for things to return to normal - where Harvey took care of him, where they had each other’s backs - almost shoves an embarrassing sound from his gut, but Mike’s learned some control over the past few years so he wrenches his wrist free and passes the baby over, gently but without touching Harvey at all.
“Gotta go. Thanks for the -”
His throat starts to close so he stops talking, stumbles up, and throws his coat on before darting out the door.
Harvey doesn't try to stop him.

Leaning in close, Harvey murmurs, “You’re awfully mouthy for this early in the evening.”
Mike tilts his head, flirtatious confrontation as the car rolls to a stop. “Bit early in the evening to be discussing my mouth, don’t you think? Sir?”
“Tell you what,” Harvey muses lowly. “You make me look good tonight, I’ll do more than just discuss it. Fair?”
Mike gulps and nods, light-headed, and he doesn’t think it’s from yesterday’s blood loss. He can feel Harvey’s breath on his lips, smell his cologne, subtle and smooth, thinks maybe he’s gonna get luckier than he’d hoped, and then with a smirk Harvey reaches across his body and cracks open the door. “Out,” he commands, and Mike sighs, hauling his tired ass out of the car. Figures.

“Grimmond is the third to fail this month. How am I meant to defend Camelot with rubbish like that?” Arthur pulls off his glove with two fingers, tossing it behind him for Merlin to catch.
“I think I might be able to help,” Merlin pipes up.
“You?” Arthur repeats. “What do you know about being a knight? You haven’t the faintest idea what it takes to be one. Courage. Fortitude. Discipline.” Anyone else would take it as an insult, but Merlin just bobs his head in pleasant agreement.
“No, no. Of course I don’t,” Merlin says. “But I know someone who does.”

Summary
Arthur has never cared about being proper around Merlin because Merlin has never been one to treat him properly. Still, it's rare for Arthur to slip and use his alpha voice, knowing that, even to the beta he believes Merlin to be, it's an overt exertion of power. The few times Arthur has commanded his servant in such a way, he usually orders Merlin to "shut up" or "go away", and Merlin can play it off like he's following Arthur's orders too literally in retaliation, until he's able to find the one alpha that knows about him (thank the Gods for Lancelot!) and convince him to override Arthur's order with his own.
This time he doesn't get the chance.
[Merlin gets stuck in Arthur's chambers without his suppressants or his scent blockers. Things turn out much better than he expects...]
