    Summary

“He’s going to hate it,” was the first thing out of his mouth when he heard Adrian approaching the barrier.

Grace didn’t even want to think about the pathetic picture that Adrian must have been seeing in that moment: the human that was considered Erid’s savior sprawled on the sand, fingers sneaking behind his glasses to press into his eyes as he wailed.

“Will not,” Adrian sang from the other side of the dome, pressing on the barrier. One of their limbs came down to knock hard on the floor, just as Rocky did when he was upset. Grace was still surprised at how genuinely expressive they both were. “Rocky feel happy if it’s from Grace.”

Or: Ryland Grace's fun (not so fun) adventure in trying to make a perfect gift for his soulmate's birthday.

    Summary

The man reaches for a screwdriver, returning to fiddling with the gear in front of him, “What, you don’t want to? Are you embarrassed of us? Embarrassed of me? Really, kid, I thought that you—”

“I’m not embarrassed,” Peter rushes to defend himself, “I just… I don’t know. It’s weird. I live here. We’re basically going on a tour of my house. And half my classmates don’t believe that I’ve even stepped foot in the tower, so they’re all going to be weird about it tomorrow, and it’s… it’s weird. But I’m not embarrassed.”

“Great! If you’re not embarrassed, you don’t mind if I tag along, right?”

His eyes widen, and he gapes, mouth opening and closing wordlessly like a fish out of water. He thinks about Mr Stark meeting Dr Grace, and decides the longer he can go without an impromptu teacher-parent meeting, the better.

    or

Of all the things Peter thought would happen on their field trip, finding out that his parental figure used to date his science teacher was not one of them.

    Summary

Two days after their first contact—and more importantly, their first words—Grace sets up his thinking machine to speak.

Rocky does not need the assistance of a machine for Grace’s language. It is ugly and harsh to listen to, but it’s relatively simple to learn. That, and, well—Rocky was alone for a very, very long time before he met Grace. He maybe hangs on to each word a little more than strictly necessary. Grace only needs to tell him each word once for Rocky to know it forever.

    Grace, though…

Well, he’s lucky Rocky is patient. Let’s leave it at that.

“Erratic steps, statement,” Rocky said, pointedly. “Is it because your fifth appendage is unsupported today, question?”

Grace coughed and stuttered, heat flooding his face as his cheeks burned bright red.

“Uh,” Grace muttered dumbly, covering his face with his hands. “You can see that?” Grace whispered.

Or Grace turned The Hail Mary around to save Rocky and Erid, but when they reunite Rocky can tell something is off with Grace.

“But you said you didn’t have a word for – for forcing someone into reproduction?”

No. Is different, but equivalent violation. Means, to force to sleep.

Or, Dr. Ryland Grace has yet to confront the choices taken from him. Eridian norms, ironically enough, force the issue.
