‘Hey.’ She wedges the phone between her shoulder, freeing up a hand to push through the Gym door and out into the autumn air. ‘So you survived the lecture from hell.’
He laughs down the phone, she wishes she could see it, feel more than just the vibrations through the phone. It’s been too long since she got to touch him, she’s already trying to find a way to justify visiting next weekend, but with their first Away match coming up it’s not looking likely. ‘Yep. Thanks for the emotional support texting.’

He knew they had plans; loose plans. In the same way eating dinner together every evening could be termed ‘plans’. But there’s no way Astrid would be this upset about loose plans. Only last week she’d been the one who missed dinner after a training session ran long, slipping in quietly and waking him from his almost-sleep with a kiss on the forehead before she climbed into bed. He’d thought nothing of it. They had busy lives, it was by no means certain that they’d both be back home for dinner everyday.

Summary
They stay that way for a long time, Catra’s face tucked into Adora’s shoulder, Adora gently cradling Catra’s head. Adora is careful not to hug Catra too hard or make her feel restrained, anticipating the moment that Catra will start to pull away — but Catra doesn’t. She hangs on so tightly it hurts, her claws digging through Adora’s jacket and into her back, latching into her like she did when she was a kitten and didn’t know how much her claws could hurt. Adora tries not to wince, tries not to move a single muscle, worried that if she does the spell will break and Catra will struggle away, appalled at having shown weakness.
But Catra doesn’t let go. And so neither does Adora.
