Ragatha should have been jealous of Ribbit. They made friends, comforted people, kept the group glued together and sane. Everyone trusted Ribbit. She was so good at what Ragatha had struggled to even try to do. But it's like expecting a star to be jealous of the moon. It's too glorious, and too integral to the beauty of the night. Ragatha couldn't hold anything against Ribbit if she tried.

Dear Jax,
Why do I begin all these letters with "dear Jax?" You weren't dear to me at all! You were an insufferable, insensitive, unlikeable, violent jackass who had absolutely no interest in changing. But I guess part of me assumed you'd give it up some day and get better. I don't know why, but the idea of you not getting a happy ending never felt real until you were already gone.

Or, Jax's abstraction hits Zooble a lot harder than they were expecting. They don't know how to explain this, not even to themself. At Kinger's suggestion, they attempt to anyway--through letters. They think it's stupid and pointless, but something makes them keep writing anyway.

He's... trying to be better. For his own sake, really, not anyone else's. He just doesn't want to get arrested for assault. He really, really has no reason to still be talking to these people. It's probably best if he doesn't. He's really bad at doing what's best.
Obviously. He's living in an abandoned building off $15 a week when he has a perfectly fine mother who is perfectly willing to house him.But, honestly, that's not bad. He could be doing so much worse. One might consider this rock bottom, but beneath rock bottom is a whole lot of lava, and he's not there.
[ Jax experiences relative rock bottom for two weeks straight and learns not very much. ]
