The road home was always quiet after practice.
Frank liked it that way — the hum of the amp still in his head, the cold air from the cracked window, the smell of fall in Jersey clinging to everything. The radio buzzed between stations, half-playing old songs he didn’t really like anymore, but kept it on anyway because silence made him think too much.
He wasn’t far from the overpass when he noticed the shape.
Just someone standing there — still, right against the railing — the kind of still that didn’t look casual. The kind that made something in Frank’s chest twist tight.Someone was supposed to die that night. Frank stopped them. Now there’s this underlying tension between them that the two can’t label.
