Today, he's trapped fifty years in the past, in an Ankh-Morpork much darker than the one he grew up in, with a civil war looming on the horizon. He is not having a good time - and things will only get worse when he meets the unexpectedly familiar Sergeant-at-Arms John Keel.
Twenty-year-old Young Sam gets into a fight with his father, Commander Vimes, about not joining the Watch, and then, due to a magical mishap, lands himself in the past, forced to borrow the identity of Ned Coates for the two weeks leading up to the Glorious Twenty-Fifth of May. The only versions of his Dad available to him are a bastard who doesn't recognize him, and a twerpy kid who definitely doesn't recognize him.
