Summary
He who saves one life saves the world. This was the guiding principle of what it meant to be a hero. No life - however small or seemingly insignificant - should be cast aside. Yet in modern society, heroes were pushed to pursue fame and fortune over living up to the ideals at the foundation of their profession. Meanwhile, the public grows more and more apathetic to the plights of those around them, utterly convinced that heroes will step in to help anyone truly in need. A horrifying combination.
For one child suffering and ignored amidst the crowded streets of Japan, this would become the foundation of the future terror that would grip the world.
Or it would be... were it not for a single act. A small change in routine, a different street chosen, a dash of courage, and a hand extended. The hallmarks of a hero were not in flashy powers or catch phrases but instead the courage to act when no one else would.
Inko Midoriya had that courage.
And it would change the scales for everyone.

“You alright?” Hizashi asked under his breath, nudging Aizawa’s arm with his own, and Aizawa scowled.
“Fine. Don’t you have announcements to handle?”
“Not for another three minutes,” Hizashi whispered back. “I know these exams are rough for you. What with these kids being the same age you were-“
“Are you going to ask me this every year?” Aizawa snapped, and Hizashi stepped back, raising his hands in a sign of peace. “I’m fine. Just focused on making sure the students we allow in have actual potential.”Or: Izuku and Himiko became best friends while living on the streets, and he and Aizawa have a closer relationship then either of them know yet.

Then his phone buzzed against the desk.
Shouta turned it over with a deep frown.
Midoriya Izuku.
Shouta carefully picked it up, pressing the phone to his ear with a drawn-out, wary, “Hello?”
There was cackling on the other end—wild, breathless, completely unrestrained laughter spilled through the speaker, loud enough that Shouta instinctively pulled the phone away from his ear to stare at it in alarm.“Sen—” Midoriya wheezed, dissolving into another fit of hysterics. “Woah—okay—come on out! Come—you’re—”
Shouta sat up immediately.
“Where are you?”
“Having a beer! Or—” Midoriya snorted loudly into the phone. “Like—jeez, how many have I had?”
There was a muffled voice in the background that Shouta couldn’t quite make out, followed by another burst of laughter from Midoriya that sounded dangerously like he was about to fall off a chair. Shouta pinched the bridge of his nose, a headache already blooming behind his eyes.
“You’re drunk.”
