    Summary

Tom worked quietly but efficiently. With aching fingers, he ripped long strips of fabric into the sheets of his bed. The sound of tearing cloth filled the room, shattering the quietude of the night and muting the sound of wind seeping through the gaps in the windows. Nature was mostly asleep, every noise muffled by the heavy mantle of snow. He didn't have much time, and he knew servants were checking on him from time to time. Only by moonlight, he knotted the strips of fabric together, fabricating a long, solid rope.

"§Tighter.§" Nagini hissed into his ear. His large snake was rolled around his shoulders, sucking up his warmth on this cold winter night. "§You don't want to fall, Ssspeaker.§"

"§I know what I'm doing.§" he huffed in Parseltongue.

Despite his annoyance, he listened to her and tightened the knot. Strip after strip, the cord took shape. When he had knotted every piece of fabric together, he stood up without wasting time. This was now or never.
