Summary
During the Journey to the West, Sun Wukong defeated many demons to protect his fellow pilgrims. The Six Eared Macaque is only another foe who was felled in battle against the Sage, and is written in the history books as such. Upon his death at the hands of his old friend, his soul should have gone to the Diyu to atone for his sins, and then reincarnate.
At least, that's how things are meant to be...yet the Jade Emperor found that to be a waste of a useful soul.
Or: Tang finds a dusty little lantern when looking for the Pills of Immortality and takes it without further thought. It might both the best and worst choice he's ever made.
