Summary
“It’s not about having something to say, it’s about controlling the mouthpiece,” he says, elegantly swirling whiskey in his glass.
The year is 1926. Herbert Jean Winstreet finds himself, as he often does these days, in a smoky speakeasy. Next to him, someone beautiful.

Summary
They are closer than they have ever been to finding Comfrey McLeod.
The Ectic Research is abandoned by the time they arrive, but only very recently. The footprints are still fresh, the documents strewn carelessly about, the booby traps still untriggered. Comfrey and Mordecestershire are chasing each other, or perhaps both chasing the same thing separately, with the crew of the Zephyr always a beat behind. Their next destination will take them to the bottom of the sea, and for that they need a submersible.
Fortunately, they know exactly where to get one. Unfortunately, it is all the way in Oda.
“Two weeks!?” Maxwell exclaims.
“Two weeks,” Van replies. “Marya just triple checked the math.”
Maxwell feels a blood vessel about to burst on the inside of his skull. A two week pause after five days of nonstop chase makes Maxwell want to pitch himself off the side of the Zephyr. His hands twitch under his gloves.

Summary
“Oh! Sorry I didn’t see you there!”
“I move soundlessly and I do not breathe,” Torse replies.
“Quite right,” Maxwell coughs.
He has not quite figured out how to read Torse’s expressions. Frankly, Maxwell has not figured out how to read anyone’s expressions– tone issues, and all that. But still, Torse has no mouth, which complicates things.
