“Are children invited to cookout on Sunday?” Ilya asks Bood as they change out of their practice gear. The regular season begins again in just a few weeks, so the Centaurs are trying to bond as much as they can before then. It’s their second season with Shane, and Ilya knows this will be the season that everything clicks for them.
“Of course!” Bood answers automatically, frowning when he remembers who he’s talking to. “Are you…planning on bringing a kid?”
“Not really.” Ilya shrugs, as if that makes any semblance of sense. “Just small Shane, probably.”OR

The first time they’d done this, in Ilya’s bed, Shane had been mystified at Rozanov’s insistence that he not enter the nest without Shane’s permission. Now, Shane feels something akin to smugness flexing its claws in his chest. A primal satisfaction at the rightness that he is the one with the power - at present, if not for much longer - alpha just outside the nest and at his mercy.
Like Shane will only yield for someone who has earned it. He can draw out Ilya’s suffering just a little longer, make him earn it.
Shane rakes his gaze over the delicious chest and bicep muscles bunching above the edge of the nest. “Waiting for something, Rozanov?”
“Are you going to let me into your nest, omega?” His pronunciation of the endearment is more Russian than English, accent thickening around the syllables.
“Depends. You gonna give me your knot?”
“Hm, does not sound like begging yet to me.”
Some months after Shane recovers from rejection sickness in Ilya's bed, they share their heat/rut together at the cottage, both clinging to the delusion it's still casual.

Summary
The weather in Canada was nice for once, the roads were piled in snow and nobody was huddled near the fireplace covered in blankets to shield themselves from the wind blowing into their home. It was warm and sunny, the sun just barely peeking out from the clouds above but still lighting up the entire sky. It was just past 11am in the small town and, although many people were outside enjoying the warm weather, most people were at the pool enjoying the summer time or some unfortunate ones were off at work.
All the community pools, parks, and trails were open around the city, so Ilya had made a plan for him and his husband once he began to notice Shane sitting in the corner of the living room almost every day, not even playing with anything or doing anything- just watching outside while bored out of his mind.
