Aziraphale had been trying so hard to do the right thing. To fix things. He'd spent three years separated from the very being that made his existence fun, that made it complete. He'd spent half of it bitter and heartbroken. And in the end found his other half just as devastated. Found things awkward and completely distorted. Fell back into avoidance, hadn't got a chance to talk. He'd spent three years Up There, then got merely a few short hours with his demon before watching him disappear.
He'd been going so slow, he'd been doomed to be too late.
