Summary
In the strobe lights, faces became distorted and every haircut appeared more cropped than it was. With the alcohol in his system, Seongjae spent half the night chasing a ghost of his past in every man until he forfeited and approached the one who resembled him best.
It was a banal pattern that he should have gotten over by now, two years on.
But just a glimpse of a crew cut in the crowd slowed down the world and tilted him off his axis.
Or, two years ago, Kang Seongjae was discharged from the military and left it all behind. Even Shin Ahwi. At least, he tried to.

“The speed of the truck whipped the smoke of the soldier’s lit cigarette away as soon as he puffed it past a tilted smirk. He rolled the cigarette between his teeth with his tongue as he stared. Seongjae’s heart jumped in time with a swift dart of it to the side. In the corner of his vision, he saw a second soldier lean in. He must have whispered something amusing to the man who had rendered his breathing shallow, as the smirk ticked upwards.”
Or: Seongjae is trying his very best to keep to himself and the kitchen, when the system overlord forces him to raise his superior soldier’s likability level. The problem? It may be raising too quickly to make any sense. He’s not even trying.

Weirdly enough, the most unbearable thing Suho felt from being kicked in the head was not the pain itself but the burn in his lungs. As darkness crept in to claim him, his thoughts scattered toward gentler places. It made him think—absurdly—how desperately he wished they could return to a time before everything fractured into violence and regret.
