Summary
Once Eloise leaves Colin's room, Penelope and Colin's proximity changes its tone; maybe it’s all in Penelope’s head, but there’s an intimacy here as she burrows into Colin’s naked chest, like it’s where she belongs. It feels like she does. It feels like he’s supposed to hold her like this, captivate her with the heat of his flesh, the depths of his breaths, and the strength of his hold. It feels a little like home, and it devastates her to think like that.
But this is what she’s missed the most. These unparalleled moments where there are no guards or boundaries or weirdness. The parts of him that make her feel the softest, when he’s affectionate with her through touch, like yes, he missed her as in her personality, but also her as in the feeling of her skin and the softness of her hair, because she’s missed those things from him, too. The quiet of his voice as he speaks only to her, the caress of his fingers when he tries to get her attention, the warmth of him when he invites her into his bed so he can hold her like this.
or; Penelope and Colin are forced to be touching at all times.

Colin to Pen
9 Dec
[07:03]Colin: I need a favour
Colin: also hi
Colin: good morningThe phone vibrates against the bathroom counter, and Penelope hates the way her heart does this little flip in her chest at the sight of his name flickering at the top of her notifications. She stills, eyeliner poised in her hand, and contemplates answering. He never texts this early, so it is likely whatever he needs is important.
But she is running late.
And, more importantly, she is trying to be better about these sorts of things.

Summary
Queen Charlotte might one day want to award Mr. Percy Iqor a title of some sort, like Esquire or Queen’s Counsel, and she would find he was registered but deceptively hard to find. His surname was hard to understand, fictional as it was and indistinctly foreign. His real law degree did not resemble his work in the publishing milieu. And even more difficult would be to find how he might be a male relation of Lady Whistledown without being part of the ton. He was not an ambitious man. He was happier to be making commissions than he was to be contacted by high-profile clientele.
“Your paper boys will not need me,” Penelope’s solicitor said certainly. “Their small ages are a blessing in that way. They are grown men as much as it goes to do a day of work, but they are also good at standing up to a threat of a drubbing.”

Summary
Stories of great love do not end with “happily ever after”. That is just the beginning.
A series of unfortunate events gave Penelope and Colin a second chance at a life together and they grabbed the opportunity with both hands. However, navigating their happily ever after while tending to the wounds inflicted by their past, and the chaos of their present, is proving more challenging, rewarding, heartbreaking and joyous than they ever expected.
This is a sequel to The Second Chance, but can be read independently.
