Natsuo and Fuyumi stood there for several minutes in perfect silence, just clinging to each other in the driveway, and all she could think was that it wasn’t supposed to be this hard. It wasn’t supposed to be this hard for her to leave everything behind.
“Please don’t leave me,” Natsuo breathed, so quiet he probably didn’t think Fuyumi heard. Something wet dripped onto her shoulder and he nuzzled his nose down, whispering, “I don’t think I can do this without you.”
And Fuyumi raised her eyes straight up to the sky, blinking back tears, and wondered why the world was specifically designed to destroy her.
