He didn’t answer, eyes locked on her now like she was something both fragile and dangerous.
“It means night guardian,” she said.
Jack let out a breath—something between a laugh and a sigh. It was soft. Disbelieving. Reverent.
His hand moved—slow, deliberate—and his fingers intertwined with hers. The motion was steady, but his grip was light, as if he wasn’t sure he deserved to hold on.

She’s standing by the Hub, chatting with Dana, when Jack steps out of the exam room next to the bathroom. His mind immediately lights up. Samira Mohan is pregnant, and no one here knows.
“There he is,” Dana says as she catches sight of him. “We were just talking about you.”
Samira raises her brows, and he wants to kiss her right here in the middle of the bullpen. He doesn’t, of course, but he wants to, and Samira seems to know what he’s thinking because she shakes her head, half-grinning. “About me?” He asks.
“About house hunting,” Samira clarifies. “And your total aversion to fixer-uppers.”
“You can buy houses that are already fixed up,” Jack says. He is a grown man. He makes a good salary as an attending physician. Jack is not interested in being his own contractor. He’s not in Ortho.

With proper supervision and the love of family, Harry excels in ways never dreamed.
Because that wasn't enough of a challenge, I also made a world very similar to Victorian England with harsh discipline, honor, and proper comportment. I created a world where first-gens are used to replenish the magic of families, so while second-class citizens, they are necessary every three generations to keep the family magic alive. Beloved Hekate is the goddess of magic, and she does occasionally interfere, too.
