Nick didn’t believe showing care for his friends made a dude gay, but there just comes a point where you can’t no homo your way out.
The glances, the brutal roughhousing and ease in which they understood each other without a word. The way Kyle would clean up after Kenny without a word and how Stan would take every opportunity to hang off of Kyle like a clingy homosexual barnacle and getting elbowed for it.
All this flirting makes his skin crawl.
Nick himself was no stranger to ironic gay jokes with the homies but no matter what anyone says he knows homies do not kiss each other!
The girls sometimes do, but he thinks it doesn't count for them. Maybe.
He has never claimed to understand girls.

When his English class essay about where he sees himself in fifteen years is met with a lot of backlash, he stays home for a week, feigning sick, to devise a plan.
His mission? Return dressed as a new student, and prove to everyone that he is a real boy. To Stan and the other boys, who don't take him seriously. To his parents and the school's teachers, who think he is too young to decide these things. And especially to Cartman, the son of a bitch.
And his name will be Kyle.

“You would tell me if you were suicidal, right, Bubbie? Promise me you would never kill yourself. Promise me! Right now, young man!”
Kyle rolls his eyes and sighs into the phone. “Yes, Ma. I would tell you if I was suicidal. Which I’m not, for the record.”

Following the untimely death of an old friend, Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman do their best to cope. Horribly.

“Funny,” Kyle replies simply. “The only trait your whore mom passed down to you is the habit of being down on your knees getting slapped around.“
Cartman opens his mouth to retaliate, but comes up with nothing good. “Touché,” he says.

“So you did that to distract me from—OW!”
He yelps at the feeling of sharp needle being jabbed into his thigh. Lohen injects something into him, and when he’s done the needle is extracted just as quick.

Then, before Illuga can decide whether he’s actually going to follow through on that threat, Lohen lifts one of Illuga’s hands and turns it just enough to press a kiss to the exposed skin at his inner wrist, between glove and sleeve.
But just before they disappear around the corner, Lohen turns his head, and looks directly at the bush where the Traveller and Paimon are hiding.
Both of them go rigid.
There is no expression on his face. Which is somehow worse.

Also, his tolerance. Whenever I visit him— which I do quite often, he offers me a bucket or two of water while he insists on sipping his fire water. Surely after some time, that has to be deadly? I don't think I've seen him eat much, either. He brings and offers to cook dinner for the both of us sometimes, but he insists that I eat it all. No matter how much I try to force the issue, he doesn't budge.
I tried asking my pops but he brushed it off quickly, but I could tell he was hiding something. Again, I’m not accusing my friend of anything egregious of any sorts. I’d just like to know what kind of entity I’m potentially dealing with.

"Yes, yes," Illuga drawls, allowing his body to go limp so Flins is forced to carry his dead weight. It is not much, but it is enough to be a minor inconvenience. "You are such a strong and gallant fae, Lord Flins. I am in awe of you and your depth of power."
"I will choose to take those words at face value rather than with the sarcasm you have laced them with," Flins says airily.

"Young Master, you honor me with your presence as always."
Illuga huffed good-naturedly and let the backpack rest by his feet, "Always greeting me with flattery. It seems you are as unchanging as this isle, Sir Flins."
The man straightened and hummed consideringly, gazing at Illuga with slightly narrowed eyes for several quiet moments. If Illuga was more bold, he'd dare say his words might have hit Flins deeper, with the sudden, minuscule crookedness of his smile.
"I seem to have grown into the moss and stone alongside this land, but if it is a little change the Young Master desires, who am I to ever deny him? Considering he brings the sun itself with him whenever he visits."

It struck Illuga then, a silly thought he should not be having as a seasoned Ratnik alongside his senior: it felt as though they were playing. Not as cat and mouse as Illuga sometimes felt with Flins, but as youths, carefree and wild in the tall grass, uncaring of dew dampening their shirts and fresh mud clinging to their trousers.

Summary
"You do not know what first prompted you to begin the tale, your own tale, one you once swore you were going to leave behind in the vast, cold wasteland that is the far north. It was too heavy a burden to carry, and as you made your way south, away and away from the court and the heartbreak, you could have sworn the memories were shedding off you like the dry petals of a flower."
In which Flins presents Illuga with his own backstory, from the consolidation of the fae court to his own death. An experimental piece worked in vignettes.

Bookmarker's Notes
Perhaps, you think as you place this memory of a wreckage back into its cushioned box, you have been picking up the pieces of the life you left behind all along, and they have merely been kept in ice as well, ice that is slowly beginning to melt under the watchful gaze of a radiant dawn.
You can see him all too well now, this echo of the man who loved you in life. He started appearing not long after the battle where you witnessed his fall, where you rushed to hold him as the light left his eyes and the warmth left the hand you held for him. He is not the first ratnik you have accompanied in their dying moments. He is not the first mortal you have guided to his grave. He is not the first ghost you have stood beside, listening to the echo of their last desire in life. He is, however, the first to make you wish to carve your own heart out of your chest.
You have discovered he will only appear at dawn, as though even in death, he still wishes to see the light triumph over darkness once again. This is a sentiment he had confessed to you once, as the two of you lay under the stars and the horizon started to lighten. You're not certain when you started seeing him as your light, his radiance almost blinding as he led you through uncertainty, but you think now of that night under the new moon. You had exchanged simple vows, of comradery, of friendship, of love. And as the day had dawned, he had related this simple secret to you, and you had watched the sun rise in silence. Perhaps this is not so dissimilar to that moment. Perhaps this is why you keep coming back to him now, day after day.
You present to him an offering from a dying man in a battlefield who had no coin to give. You hope it will be enough, this token given to the last love you ever shared, will ever share, for you have nothing more to give.
"This is the last of the story," you tell him. "What might have been a page more in the long life of a simple fae turned to be instead a quiet and anticlimactic end. I apologize, dear Illuga, that I could not offer you more."
You rest the citrine upon his grave, and watch as the light of dawn shines upon its facets like a dance. When you look up, the shade is gone, for good this time. This offering shall have to be enough for his crossing, as it always has been for the ferryman, as it shall be your last crossing as well.—
i think flins dies at the end. the way it’s worded, last crossing and final page. the big sleeps.
did the dawn die with illuga, or is it just beginning? it’s such a transient state. i don’t think flins cares either way; whether the world is plunged into darkness or bathed in light, his rising sun is gone

Summary
Lohen had heard stories of Illuga, captain of the Nightmare Orioles, and the lightkeeper who would one day usher dawn upon Nodkrai. The young ratnik was always painted as a grand hero.
The Grand Master constantly sang praises in regards to him, occasionally drunkenly proclaiming that he would go up their camp and personally carry the captain back. And Mika, who once delivered the lightkeepers a bottle of dandelion wine to congratulate them on the rebuilding of Cliffwatch Camp, happily chatted away about how kind and dependable Illuga was.
However, the information he had was all based off what he'd heard. The two knights who talked about the ratnik were notorious for being generous with their flattery, and Lohen would not fully take their words to heart until seeing this Illuga's abilities with his own two eyes.
And witness Illuga he did. Though, maybe not quite in the way he expected.

Bookmarker's Notes
But instead it was something much more magnificent. And for a sight to top the opportunity for bloodshed when Lohen was in a bad mood. Well, that was a first.
On the shore stood a lone ratnik with his back turned to the knight, silver hair tousled from the strong ocean winds, and crimson strands stuck to his neck from the sweat built up during whatever battle he just went through. The face that came into view as the lightkeeper swiveled around to face Lohen however, was absolutely delightful.
The ratnik's glare was sharp, bloodlust seeping out his entire being as he jumped towards the knight, polearm aimed straight at the man's neck. His grip on the weapon was firm, disarming him without struggle being nigh impossible. This man was young, about the same age as himself, yet he seemed like an incredibly experienced fighter.
A shiver went down the vice captain's spine at the thought of an unrestrained fight against this beauty. What an experience it could be, having that fierce, unrestrained dedication towards eradicating the Abyss aimed towards him, and only him. However, he couldn't hit the bucket tonight if he wished to fulfill that fantasy, and he had work to get back to.

Bookmarker's Notes
The sharp tip of that god forsaken polearm that always found itself buried somewhere in the ground next to his head, the uncomfortable crackling and breaking of geodes which manifested themselves as soon as Illuga’s vision shone a little brighter, the sheer force of the lightkeeper’s attacks. For someone like Lohen, finding a worthy opponent was rather tough work; not everyone is as strong as a Captain of the Knights, after all. Illuga was an untapped treasure indeed, the thought of sparring with him always awakened a unique sense of anticipation within Lohen. Even beyond that, upon facing Illuga he often ignored the accelerated beating of his heart. He always blamed it on adrenaline or the thirst for action… he had always been a bad liar, though.
