Tighnari tugs at his fur, frowns as he watches his tail just flop into the flowers to his right, „When you asked for a portrait, I wasn‘t expecting this.“ There are petals in his fur now, it‘s going to be a nightmare to pluck them out later. Maybe he can bother Kaveh for a comb later.
Once he is done painting.
„You mean the nude part? You agreed. I asked. Weren‘t you listening?“ Kaver grouches as he starts painting, easy strokes, pale fingers holding the brush gently, the paint dripping onto the floor, adding to the colourful puddle underneath the easel. „Although, you were busy scolding that ranger again. Which mushrooms did he eat this time around?“
„I heard the painting part, but not the nude part? And please don’t ask. I am still figuring that one out myself.“
„And yet you agreed.“
And yet he agreed. Even after Kaveh asked him to strip and despite the embarrassment that came with it, Tighnari agreed. Tighnari followed the request. Because it‘s difficult, saying no to Kaveh, not when Tighnari knows that he himself likes the attention, the eyes on him. That he likes that single-minded focus and the way Kaveh paints him.

“It is the midsummer bonfire after all. Everyone has been waiting for this all year, it would be quite startling if this wasn't incredible. I believe you have been present for the preparations?”
“Yes, I helped out in the kitchens for a bit.” She smiles to herself, shrugs, “Everyone was very nice about it. And I got to taste a few things.”
“And?”
“And I like how everyone kept trying to think of ways on how to get you to join in with the celebrations. I think someone was planning on faking a commotion or something so you’d at least come out of your house to lecture them? And Amir said he is this close” Her fingers are almost touching when she lifts her hand to show him, “to sending in his kids to guilt trip you into taking a break.”
Its the annual midsummer bonfire in Gandharva Ville and after all these years, Tighnari finds a reason for attending after all. (It‘s definitely not the bullying from his second-in-command. Definitely not the sing and dance and the work waiting for him in the morning. It‘s the little girl his best friend dropped on his doorstep with barely an explanation and the way she blooms in the firelight, in the way she finds a home in their midst.)

Between the gruesome corpses and the quiet, unsettling doctor Cullen who shows up like a statue in pressed slacks, lying through his teeth, Charlie’s got more questions than answers—and no one seems too keen on giving him either.
Charlie’s trying not to notice how his breath catches when the doc gets too close. He’s also trying not to notice how the bodies keep piling up, unsolved. Neither effort is going particularly well.
And if one more person tells him it was a bear, he’s going to shoot something. Probably not a bear.
