Max Verstappen has the perfect life - a loving girlfriend, two cats, a high-paying finance job, a beautiful house in Marylebone. His upcoming wedding to Kelly is supposed to be a coronation of sorts. It's also the very event which will determine whether George gets his promotion or not.

Summary
George had the life he was supposed to want: a lead anchor desk at the BBC, a beautiful home in Belgravia, and a fiancé who was a literal living legend. He basked in the satiety and safety of being loved by Lewis Hamilton. But when the credits rolled on a National Geographic documentary, a single name on the screen always threatened to undo five years of his carefully constructed fortress.
Max had ended his five-year contract at NatGeo as a field producer and cinematographer. He was offered a seat at BBC Earth, based closer to home and the stubborn past that held him hostage.
In a world of fast-paced breaking news and expensive substitutes for intimacy, George was beginning to realise that some imprints never wash away.

Max toed the shiny sheet of gold heat shield and said apropos of nothing, “Back in the days they used to tell fortune from looking at the guts.”
That got something out of George. He blinked, head slightly tilted. “Pardon?”
“Divination. I forgot what culture—something old. I watched something about it on a flight. They would disembowel an animal and poke at the guts—the intestines, whatever else—and read…” He couldn’t think of the word in English and gave up with a shrug. “You know what I mean. The future.”
“Omens,” George said almost mechanically.
“Yes, omens.” Max nodded. “So what omens have you received?”
“That I’m well and truly fucked, aren’t I."
Montreal, after the race. Max finds George in the Mercedes garage at one in the morning, standing in the entrails of a car that should have won.
Max has never believed in divine will or luck.

Luckily, Max sticks around.
