“Relax your hands,” he said, low and patient. Frustrated, she forced herself to comply. The mare snorted and tossed her head, but her steps slowed. “Good.”
Saints, it was lucky her cheeks were already so red; it meant he couldn’t see the way he made her blush. He was talking to the horse as much as he was to her and she knew that, but it didn’t matter. The word was as heavy as a physical touch. She shivered, embarrassed and unnerved by her reaction.
“General—”
“Aleksander,” he corrected, still in that same low voice. Sobha’s ears flickered, chasing the sound. “Just relax. You’re tense, and it’s making Sobha nervous.”
Or: Alina rides a horse, and then something else entirely.
