“Shane mentioned you were trying to beat Ilya’s record in shot accuracy,” Rose says. She has an amused look on her face that transforms into laughter when Ilya raises an eyebrow.
“Just mine, moy podsolnukh?” he asks. “But you are the current record holder.”
“Well… no one’s beaten it in a decade,” Shane says with a shrug.
“But it’s Luca!” Ilya says. “You know he can beat you.”
Luca meets Shane’s eyes. He’d been thinking about it a lot. Probably more than he should have, but his stupid brain wouldn’t shut up about it, how Shane would feel if for some reason he did beat the record. “I am not quite Shane Hollander, though,” Luca says.
Rose hums. “No, thank god,” she says. “I don’t know if the world could handle more than one Shane Hollander.”

Irritatingly, though, Ilya might be right. Maybe revenge really was the best revenge.
Especially for Adrian de la Cruz, who Shane had only known before Barrett as a supremely mediocre actor — he’d always preferred the original Crimson Dagger anyway. Now, however, after hurting a guy who Shane sees as something of a little brother, he wants this guy to get his comeuppance.

Summary
Shane returns from the showers to find the locker room far more animated than when he left it. Everyone has their phones out, and when he sees Shane coming, JJ says, “Câlisse, Hollander, about fucking time! Ilya Rozanov got caught kissing a man.”
After the tuna melt debacle, but before Rose, Ilya makes the reckless decision to go to a gay bar to take his mind off of Shane. When photographs get published, Shane has a realization and devises a plan: he's going to ask Ilya Rozanov to marry him.
Ilya's going through enough without things he can't have being dangled in front of him. He needs to figure out a different way to avoid going home, because eventually Shane Hollander will realize what Ilya already knows: Ilya isn't worth what Shane wants to do for him.
