“Soon, okay? I’ll sleep soon.”
“Grace is liar.”
Grace didn’t deny it.
He wasn’t sure how long he worked for after that, but at some point, his body presumably shut itself down right there in his rolling chair. At least, that’s where he woke up, with a start, to find Rocky glaring at him with his whole body from across the lab.
They didn’t talk for a while after that.
Grace has a complicated relationship with sleep (and himself). Rocky enforces a bedtime (and Grace treating himself a little better).

It’s been a while since he’s gotten a good night’s sleep and it’s been even longer since he’s eaten enough to keep him full, so his thoughts are nothing more than buzzing, white static these days, which is why he doesn’t think much of it when he feels a light tap against the small of his back.
With a grumbled complaint, Grace rolls over, a feat that feels similar to pushing himself through rapid water, and freezes.
“You’re . . .” His thoughts muddle as he blinks, the rusty gears in his brain churning smoke. “You’re . . .not in a ball.”
. . .
Malnutrition has left Grace colder than he's ever been before and Rocky comes up with a solution, but the contact reminds Grace of the last time he was on Earth.

This is all Rocky's fault. He was stupid, stupid, stupid. How could he be so stupid and let this happen? Between the two of them, Grace was supposed to be the stupid one, not Rocky.
They were supposed to be okay, fine. Rocky and Grace saved the stars, saved Earth and Erid, saved humans and eridians. Rocky helped Grace and Grace helped Rocky. Then Grace saved Rocky. So Rocky had to save Grace.
Now they're supposed to be safe and fine.
But Grace isn't fine. Not at all. And it's all his fault.
Or, Grace accidentally comes into contact with Erid bacteria and gets sick, Rocky (understandably) panics

I take another, much longer sip.
After making the final nitrogen resistant Taumoeba batch, Ryland gets drunk in celebration. Rocky has to navigate a now very drunk Ryland, who decides to share some fun facts about how he got onto the Hail Mary.

Grace is fed up with being in bed and constantly being ordered around by his medical team.
It's been over five Earth months since the Hail Mary arrived at Erid. Thanks to the ship's extensive collection of literally every piece of human knowledge ever, the Eridians were able to help Grace, but recovery from starvation is a long road. For Grace, it helps to have his best friend and his spouse rooting for him daily and keeping him company, especially since recovery can get pretty boring. He decides he needs some fresh (dome) air, or he is going to go insane from boredom.
Or: Grace being a terrible patient.

While working on solving the issue of Grace slowly dying of starvation, malnutrition, and a host of other issues, the Eridians discover the human internet (largely Wikipedia) and fall down a rabbit hole of trying to figure out everything they can about the needs of their squishy alien savior. While most of their focus is on the food issue, another link catches their (metaphorical) eyes.
"Touch starvation, also known as touch deprivation or skin hunger, is the physiological need by humans and other species for physical contact with their own species or other living beings."
No one is happy about this.

Grace is always in pain. The painkillers help manage it. But he's at a point where increasing the dose would most likely do more damage than good, and still, the pain is there. It always is. He's pretty sure Rocky knows it, too, even if he tries not to let it show too much.
"A little."
"No lie, please."
Right. The little bugger would know. Of course he would. They've spent literal years getting more and more codependent, it would be weird if he didn't.
"Grace in pain, statement," he confirms. In an attempt to be truthful, but not worry Rocky too much, he adds, "My head mostly. Little bit of muscle pain, too." Pause. Inhale, exhale. Continue. "And the formication and burning in my hands again."
"Ah. The small insects."

Rocky would never understand how Grace could talk about his body deteriorating so casually. His wry smile every time the taumoeba came right back out of his mouth, the blood left on his toothbrush after he brushed. “I’m leaking again,” he’d laugh. Humans could laugh without sounding happy, Rocky had learned.
Grace gets beriberi on his way to Erid. Rocky copes.
