Each odd stretch bared bruises and electric bites, all across his ribs and down his arms. They were interrupted by burn marks, awfully dark against his skin. “Turn that frown upside-down!” He muttered to himself as he stood back up, skipping over to a couple pigeons that’d landed on their roof.

Jason could admit he had made better decisions. He could admit that, perhaps, he had taken it too far. But he didn’t imagine Bruce would choose the Joker over him. He definitely didn’t think Bruce would finally threaten his no-killing doctrine for the sake of a mass murderer who killed his son.
But, here Jason was, clawing at his throat as rivets of red flowed out, coating the ground and marring his armor. The blood red bat on my chest matched perfectly, blending together to an illusion of a bleeding emblem. It would have been poetic, would have been terrifying if he wasn’t screaming without any sound.

Leslie, ever the professional, plows right on before the bombshell has had time to settle. Jason doesn’t need her to explain what HIV is to him. He’s well aware. He’s watched and read depictions of the illness before, in novels and musicals, most of them tragedies because sickness always ends in tragedy. Like terminal cancer, or an oncoming train while you’re stuck in the middle of the tracks. No escape. No happy endings.

Summary
And… he likes it, for some reason. He likes being Red Robin, the woman. The idea of Red Robin being a man fills him with an echoing sense of wrongness. Maybe it's because he created the identity as a woman, but for whatever reason, the idea of it throws him off.
(Maybe he can have this. Maybe, after a year of self destruction for the sake of others, he can have something for himself. Even if he doesn't understand why he wants it.)
So when Tim suits up for patrol for the first time since he left to travel the world, he keeps the costume as it is, minus the cowl.
Red Robin is a woman. Tim drake is not, though. It takes a bit for her to figure it out.
