Frank and Hazel found an artifact and brought it to Camp Half-Blood, not knowing what it is or what it does. Unfortunately SOMEONE just had to touch it and thus many people who were on quests all switched divine parents.
And Percy as always just HAS to be immune to the stupid thing and figure out how to reverse the effects of the stupid box.

Sally Jackson dedicated her life to the goddess of spring when she was eight years old and lonely. This did not change much; she still had an affair with Poseidon and named her son Percy. At the end of the day, she still chose Persephone. This changed most everything.
Or, a character study and speculation on what would have changed and what would have stayed the same if Sally Jackson raised her son to be a devotee of Persephone, all before he realized he was a demigod.

He waded deeper into the surf, greeting the happy dogfish sharks that came swimming over to greet him. He wished his father hadn’t summoned Tyson to the forges so soon. He knew Tyson would be happy, and safe, but that didn’t mean it didn’t suck to miss him. "
