Riku gave a soft little hum in agreement. He was watching the window, but the corners of his mouth twitched—like he knew Sora was watching him.
It was getting harder to pretend he wasn’t.They’d been dancing around this for months. No declarations, no kisses, just… this slow, magnetic pull. Little moments. Brushed fingers. Shared silences. The first time Riku had reached for his hand during a horror movie, Sora had pretended it was because Riku was scared. But neither of them let go.
Tonight, they were alone. Kairi was out of town. The storm had given them a perfect excuse not to go anywhere. And now the soft yellow lighting of the apartment bathed everything in warmth, like it was daring them to finally acknowledge it.

Sora’s fingers brushed near the hilt of his Keyblade more than once—an unconscious gesture, the muscle memory of someone who hadn’t stopped fighting even when the war was over. His shoulders jumped at a clang from a nearby bakery, his entire body flinching at the crash of a cart overturning in the alley. Each time, he played it off—adjusting his glove, scratching his neck, tying his shoe.
But Riku noticed.
He’d seen this before. Hell, he’d lived it.
It was in the way Sora’s eyes darted too fast across open spaces. The way he subtly scanned rooftops and shadows without thinking. How his breathing was just a little too quick, like he was still waiting for a Heartless or a Nobody or something worse to drop out of the sky.Riku notices Sora isn't coping very well. How will he get his smiley Sora back?

Sora sobbed harder, shaking. His arms lowered fraction by fraction until he was half-covering, half-letting himself be seen. His voice cracked. “It hurts there. Still. I don’t-I don’t want you to…”
“I won’t,” Riku said firmly. “I won’t touch what hurts unless you ask. Never.”
Sora’s tears ran unchecked. His lips trembled. “I’m ruined.”
“No,” Riku said, voice breaking under the weight of it. He leaned close, hands steady on side of the tub. “You’re not ruined. You’re still you, and you’re still beautiful. No one can take that from you.”
