Evbo could just let him leave, could leave himself. Could run to the edge of the world and hide in some library forever.

Evbo waits in the temple. He thinks about his friend the master, down beneath on his single chain. He thinks about the discs tucked away in his inventory. He thinks about his boots, about the Old Man, about parkour God.
There’s nothing he can do.

The NHO, and anyone associated with them, are bad news, and as a rule, Joel doesn’t fuck with them, in fact, has agreed, with his lads, for none of them to fuck with them.
So, of course, when Jimmy’s boyfriend (the traitor) says some guy called Beef has been asking for him by name and throwing some fairly hefty numbers around, Joel hears him out.

Etho swears to Bdubs that nothing bad will come of it.
He’s seen people do it online a bunch of times, and sometimes it's even a lie! He’s not lying, of course, he actually is a virgin, but even if that hadn’t been the case, the idea that he could auction off something he doesn’t care about to any old weirdo willing to pay for it and use the money for himself is appealing almost regardless of risk. An onlyfans is one thing, but if he plays this right it could be all the money he’d need for a long time.
Either way, it’s not like he’s selling his kidney, it won’t do him irreparable damage to lose it.

It's different from what he had with Bdubs, of course it is. Back then, when they skirted around it, when Etho stood on one side of a fence placed more for peace of mind than efficacy and stared across it into the eyes of a man who wanted nothing more than to consume him whole, there was a forbiddenness, a sense of wrong, and whenever they touched Etho would pull away like he'd been burned, unwilling, or maybe unable to let himself fall, headlong, into that crimson unknown, the drag behind his ribs like leaning off a clifftop.
He had never been a brave man.
