Summary
Shane and Ilya attend Jackie's birthday dinner. Before they arrive, Shane reminds Ilya to behave. What Shane doesn't realize is that some part of Ilya still remembers exactly what "behave" used to mean. “You tell me yours now or you prefer Mr. Freckles?” Shane rolled his eyes, but he couldn’t stop the small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
"I barely even have freckles right now it's the middle of winter, and no I don't prefer it. I'm Shane" Ilya repeated it immediately, like he’d been waiting for it.
“Shane,” he said, the name rolling easily off his tongue with a soft hum. His mouth curved into a slow, satisfied smile. “Much better than Mr. Freckles.”
Shane felt heat creep up the back of his neck and grabbed a cardboard coaster from the bar caddy just so he had something to do with his hands. Ilya watched the movement with open amusement.
“You blush very easily, Shane,” he said lightly.
“I do not.”
“You do,” Ilya replied, completely unbothered, tapping the bar for another round like the argument was already settled. “But is cute. I think I keep you.”
Shane snorted despite himself. “You can’t just keep people.”
Ilya glanced back at him, eyes bright and mischievous. “Watch me.”
