Summary
There is a stillness to the world when he opens his eyes. Death, he thinks, is a startling contrast to the utter chaos that his life had long since become. For a brief moment the thought strikes him that he might see his Prince again, that he might see his king too. That finally, they might have the chance to co-exist. Then he remembers driving a dagger into Aegons back, once it had become clear that there was no way out of the flames, that every possible exit had collapsed in on itself, feeding the flames further.

Summary
Dunk spun, dropping his sword entirely. Before Baelor could even register the shift in momentum, two hands the size of dinner plates clamped around Baelor’s waist. With zero apparent effort—almost entirely one-handed—Dunk hoisted the Crown Prince of Westeros off the ground as easily as one might pick up an unruly toddler.
The world suddenly inverted. Baelor’s feet left the earth, his sword swinging wildly at empty air as he was lifted high, high up.
Baelor looked down. Directly between his suspended boots was Duncan's face. The giant was looking up at him, a lock of sweat-dampened hair falling across his forehead, and on his face was a breathless, thoroughly mischievous smile.
Oh, Baelor thought.

Summary
It had occurred to Dunk in those final moments that they would probably not recover his body, that he would be nought but ash by the time the fires were brought under control. But that thought had oddly comforted him in a way, that there would be no grand funeral for the Lord Commander who had failed.
Failed to save more from the fire, failed to stop Aegon in the first place. Who knows, maybe his failure had even begun back in the hedges, maybe something he had done or not done had made Aegon the man who had done..this.
He would do anything to go back and fix it, had been his last thought before the sensations shifted from heat to cold, from fire to waves, from pain to panic.
or, dunk perishes in fire at summerhall and washes up on the sands of dragonstone. dragons still roam the skies, rhaenyra targaryen still lives and dunk quickly discovers he's not the only one lost in this time.

"and they were roommates" - a modern Westeros reincarnation AU
An excerpt from "Evidence of Affection" by Dr Baelor Targarran
Finally, I owe a debt to Duncan and Baelor themselves.
Like all historians, I have spent years in conversation with the dead. Rarely have I encountered two voices that have managed to reach across the centuries with such clarity, humour, honesty, and unwavering devotion. Whatever language we choose to describe the bond they shared, it is clear that it has left an indelible mark upon the history of Westeros. It has certainly left one on me, and it is my hope that it will leave one with you as well.- Language:
