Summary
It takes him two days to come out of his heat, and when he does, it's to the news that he's going to marry Wu Xi. He isn't surprised. He doesn't have it in him to be. He simply accepts the emperor's decree and refuses to look Helian Yi in the eyes, going through the motions of a soon-to-be bride while everyone else plans their wedding.
But in the moments he spends alone with Wu Xi, he doesn’t think that he could ever be happier. Wu Xi insists on courting him in small moments even though they are long past that stage. He is given flowers and treats and small trinkets. Some of them are things that make Wu Xi think of Jing Qi, and some of them are things that Wu Xi simply thought he would like. If for no other reason than that, Jing Qi adores and saves what he can.
Sometimes Wu Xi stares at him in wonder, and when Jing Qi asks why, Wu Xi only whispers, “Because you’re mine.”

Sometimes, whenever an enterprising Qianyuan backed Zhou Zishu into a corner, he kept himself calm by counting the number of ways he could get away with castrating the offending Qianyuan on behalf of all other Kunze. It’d be a public service, surely—just maybe best not performed in public, in case any children ended up traumatised by the sight. Right now, after days of being stalked by a certain overdressed, pretty-faced Qianyuan, Zishu had comfortably reached a castration count of 14.
