You see, Luffy had this sneaky, endearing way of creeping into people’s hearts. Endearing, because he didn’t do it on purpose, or often didn’t seem to realize he’d done it all. Sneaky, because by the time his victims had realized it had happened, they were already too enamored to really care.
His crew mates, of course, are not immune.

Unfortunately he also has other plans. Leaving Rouge alone to raise two of their sons, find the other two and pick up more along the way. She fights to keep them alive with the world government chasing them down. All while trying to figure out how to raise the literal Devil.

During the final battle on Laugh Tale, Law performs the Eternal Youth surgery to save Luffy’s life. He wakes up afterward.
Luffy doesn’t.
The good news is, Nika is as interested in getting Luffy back as any of them. The bad news is, it’s going to require a trip to the heart of the sea, where the lost souls go.
And the strange news is, Law seems to be the only one who knows the way…but he doesn’t know why.

No longer capable of becoming "Straw Hat Luffy", no longer recognizable to the person he had been, he decides a different fate, to sail with Ace and find Sabo.
Fate has a funny way of reshackling him, though. And some things, some experiences, you just can't heal from.

The walk to his flat feels no different than climbing a mountain when he's this tired. Another long day, another long shift, all Harry wants to do is go home and collapse onto his mattress.
He's taking a shortcut through a narrow alley, the rain pouring down hard, when he stumbles onto a concerning looking lump. It's humanoid, almost.
It's just his luck that his curiosity leads him to a man bleeding out; it's his own piss-poor decisions that lead to that very same man kidnapping him. Piss-poor decisions like saving the bugger.

Tom’s eyes darted towards Harry’s hands, watching those nimble fingers, and he was suddenly struck by the fact that they were, for a brief moment, tied to each other. It was not Tom and some random, detestable human, but this being that was above them all. And in a way, he was elevating Tom too. But then Harry tugged the string into the air, breaking the illusion, and Tom watched as it flew into the wind once more, seeking out what he assumed was his next so-called soulmate.
