After the events of the Starfall islands, Eggman retires to focus on his daughter, Knuckles, Amy and Tails go on their separate adventures around Mobius and Sonic... well he's trying to cope with all of that.
Adding to the fact that he was already trying to recover from his six months in the death egg, being "himself" becomes very difficult.
To keep himself busy, he travels to Spagonia where he finds himself entangled with Team Dark's buisness despite himself._______________________________________________________________

Summary
Sonic likes Shadow. And he is 100% convinced that Shadow absolutely despises his guts. Why? Because every time Sonic breathes, Shadow scowls, crosses his arms, and looks like he’s plotting a murder. In reality, Shadow is so deeply, overwhelmingly in love with Sonic that his brain completely short-circuits whenever the blue hedgehog is near, leaving him frozen in an icy, shy panic. Sonic decides he cannot live with this "hatred" anymore and sets a genius, foolproof goal: He is going to force Shadow to fall in love with him.
