Izuku takes a step back, and fixes this tender look on him, tears in his eyes. “After the war ended, there was someone who thanked me for saving so many people, but a part of me didn’t care– isn’t that horrible?” And he grips at the fabric of Katsuki’s shirt. “Before you woke up, all I could think of was how, maybe, none of it mattered because I couldn’t save you. It was almost worse than the idea of losing. It was all I wanted. I’m so selfish,” he sobs, wiping his eyes with the sleeve of his shirt.
And Katsuki’s seized by a feeling so great, he stops breathing for a bit. The realization that he needed Izuku hit him like one of his own explosive shots, and he felt something delicate and precious in him unfold.
“Well,” Katsuki says shakily, “I’m even more selfish.”
