Keyleth almost can’t believe she’s back.
During her years as the Tempest she visited Emon only a few times, and only when absolutely necessary. If it could be handled through a messenger, it was, and if not, she would never leave the confines of the Cloudtop District. Things beyond those hundred foot walls were in constant flux, changing from the city she knew into something almost entirely new right under her nose. Of course, Percy kept her updated on things he noticed from his residence, but he didn’t venture much further than the inner city unless he was traveling back to Whitestone.
So, when she finally returns to the city five years later, Keyleth can’t help but marvel at the change as the car drives her through what she remembers being called the Lower Slums, noting the scenery and a sign proclaiming it as the Southgate Farms. Their route won’t take them through the area she used to live during part of her college years, but her heart still pangs at the thought of that little apartment, how her father said she could afford a nicer place in the Erudite Quarter, closer to the university, but that he respected her wishes to live with—
The car hits a pothole, and she’s jolted out of her thoughts.
