Summary
There is a strange man who lives by the woods.
Wei Wuxian narrows his eyes. He smiles, but it’s not kind. Sharp teeth that are nothing but predatory. “Don’t you know what they say about me? What I do to the likes of you who leave the woods? Tell me, little monster, do they still tell stories of my deeds, of the mercy I don’t give?”
As always, there’s no reply. But the shadow—Wei Wuxian gets the faint sense that it’s unimpressed with him. That makes him laugh. He puts his teeth away and leans his chin on the palm of his hand to watch it curiously. “You’re not afraid of me,” he murmurs, “I like you, maybe I won’t eat you.”

Lan Wangji doesn’t know what colour her eyes are or what her hair will look like and it’s difficult to say whether the shape of her nose resembles his or Wei Ying’s when she has yet to grow into it, but she’s beautiful. And she’s loud. And she’s alive. And her weight is such a lovely thing in his arms.
He rocks her, touches a finger to her tiny, tiny clenched fist and cries with her. “Hello, beloved,” he says, “Lan Yue, A-Yue, welcome.”

“What exactly do you need help with, Lan-gongzi?” Wei Wuxian asks.
“There is a plant,” Lan Zhan replies, and he sounds hesitant and unsure, voice quiet. “There is a plant, once gifted to me by my mother. But it is dying, and I cannot seem to fix the problem.”
To Wei Wuxian’s shock, Lan Zhan puts his hands together and bows as low as the table will allow him. “Please, Wei Ying, the plant is all I have left of her. People speak wonders of your abilities, I will offer whatever compensation you seek for your assistance.”
Wei Wuxian, a lone cultivator who's said to be able to bring plants back from the dead, receives a visit from a Lan cultivator with a curious and secret request. They fall in love.
