Med-Tek ended in failure - RJ is shattered.

Jack Ward, Sole Survivor of Vault 111, pushes him onto a vertibird in search of Plan B - a remote Vault once plagued by Duncan’s illness.

After two weeks of kicking RJ's ass, Olivia Dallaire - a sniper just as talented and cranky as he is - agrees to move to Boston.

Her presence forces both Jack and RJ to face problems they can no longer outrun: How do they move on from survivors’ guilt (and be the men Olivia needs them to be) when the Wasteland only seems to tear families apart?

    Summary

“And tell command what? We just let the Khans get away?” Boone snapped back.

Manny grit his teeth. Boone was a good listener and a good friend. One who had sat and attentively listened to Manny’s tales of his Khan days. Stories of old loves, lost friends, past squabbles. He’d explained the scars from his initiation, the one under his chin when even the Ritemaster had hesitated, wondering if it was a blow too far. He thought Boone, of all the people in First Recon, understood. The Khans were just as much a part of Manny as the sun was to the sky. And yet here he was, talking about these people as if he didn’t know Manny’s baggage with fighting these guys.

If that’s how Boone wanted to act, that’s how Manny would treat him. Like a trooper who’d swallowed so many posters and radio shows back west that he couldn’t imagine even sharing a campfire with a raider without blowing their brains out. Not like a man who’d share bedroll and mess-tin with another who used to be one.
