    Byakuya sat in the dark, not even having bothered turning on a light, though the sun had set at least an hour ago... Renji had been asking more brazen questions lately. Soon, he knew the stubborn redhead would start to actually delve into what was bothering him. Vague answers wouldn’t be enough for long, and he knew it was overtly obvious to his best friend that he wasn’t okay...

    Renji would keep prodding, and sooner or later he would give in. And then his best friend would likely leave. Just like everyone else in his life. And he wouldn’t stop him. No one else needed to suffer with him...

    ...Renji’s frown increased. He had a bad feeling about this… As well as a slight intuition... Because, honestly, this sounded like the beginning of a story he’d heard far too many times before. A story not many wanted to admit to. A story that made the speaker feel like they were to blame. But it was a story that needed to be told to be able to heal, to find the help and acceptance that was needed.

    And it had to be heard by the right person.

    “Byakuya,” he said, waiting an uncomfortably long time for the both of them until wet steel eyes finally met his own. “Tell me. Everything.”
