The problem isn't that Zoey needs a gun. The problem isn't even that Zoey has a gun. The problem is that Zoey wants a gun, and neither of her partners know how to tell her no.
OR: A gun is a dangerous thing to own. A friend is a dangerous thing to have. Danger has never been a problem for the Hunters.
OR: Sometimes a tumblr meme makes you think about, and write, more than you expected.
(Technically only canon incompatible in that Zoey, in the movie, does not visibly carry a gun. Pre-ship but written with a Polytrix mindset.)

Feanor is the one to find them because Feanor never lets little things like possible death stop him from being the one to go deepest into the woods, particularly when he has a new sibling on the way who will need food.
(Or: There is a reason that Amrod and Amras, having found a baby in the woods, assume that they have acquired a child in the usual way.)
