The hand is back, gripping tight again and this time it lifts Steve clean up in the air, feet dangling uselessly.
‘Master is Father and Father would not red trail to one like you,’ Eddie says, deceptively soft but it’s clearly a warning. ‘Echo Three is Father’s best weapon. You…’ he sneers, ‘are meat.’
Incredibly, Steve rallies enough to spit in Eddie’s face.
‘Fucking eat me then,’ Steve chokes out.

Summary
Steve hasn't seen Eddie in nearly five years. He's barely let himself think of the man he turned down, all those years ago—thoroughly having broken both of their hearts in the process. What choice did he have at the time? He was still seperating himself from what his parents wanted him to be and he near even reached the cusp of finding himself—knowing himself. It would have been more than easy to lose himself in Eddie. But how could he consciously give himself to Eddie, be Eddie's, when he's never really belonged to himself? Now he stands, full of regret, looking up at the man he turned down.

Steve stares down into big blue eyes looking up at him. Familiar, yet the boy he has his arms wrapped tight around is too small. Too tiny to be the fifteen-year-old beta he swears he was yanking through the gate.
But the gaping teeth, unruly curls, and the now oversized clothes are unmistakable.
“Henderson?” Steve questioned in disbelief. The teeny pup, possibly seven or eight, simply tilts his head and his small hands curl into Steve’s polo. His eyes begin to water, his lower lip quivering.
And immediately little Dustin begins crying.

“It’s okay, you know,” Gareth says, propped up against the brick alley of the Hawk.
Eddie’s crouched like a gremlin, shoveling popcorn into his mouth and trying to coax what he thinks is a cat out from under the dumpster. “What’s okay?” he says.
“To like. Like him. Harrington,” Gareth says, shoving his hands in his pockets. “I’ve seen him at Melvald’s and he’s, like, weirdly charming to everyone. He even looks like he means it.”
He does, Eddie thinks, which is what makes it so sinister. Whatever. This stretch of insanity will all be over with after the holidays, and he can go back to New York, live out his wildest dreams, and forget Steve Harrington ever took up any space in his brain at all.
