Summary
Once Annie had sharp eyes and wore a seafoam colored dress on a stage. She wore a black one after — a morning color. Black for the fallen tributes said the crowds of people who looked at her, not knowing that the girl who wore the seafoam dress just weeks before had fallen too. She had further into insanity.
In the arena her world had shattered as her control fractured. In the arena she had stopped being crazy for anything and began to be simply crazy. It was simpler that way. She now knew that her control before had been a lie. Children have control of nothing. Victors have control of very little.
Annie Cresta is not sane and that is okay. Her insanity is not a curse or in need of cure, she simply moves though the world in a differently.

Summary
"Need anything else, Odair?”
“As a matter of fact, I do, Abernathy, we have both had a busy few weeks. I think we can buy your kids a year.“
Haymitch’s breath caught in his throat. He had gotten drunk and worried about them while they were both unconscious in recovery with a handful of other mentors. Haymitch didn’t think Finnick had been there. “How?”
“Well, when the capital hasn’t been in need of me, I’ve been making calls and visits to other floors. Your kids have something and none of us have had before: a surviving partner from their arena. We want to give them a chance to learn each other’s bodies before the president demands them."
Or, why the Capitol does not get to buy Katniss and Peeta between the 74th-75th games: victor solidarity

Summary
Alanna knows that one does not give up the patronage of a God. There are few texts on it, but once in the years before Tortall’s founding and twice after it, there are records of a Gods Champion who rejected their God and were struck down near instantly. The Champion of the Goddess who had refused to join a cloister as instructed had every injury the Goddess had saved her from inflicted at once. Alanna would die; Alanna has no choice but to be pregnant again.
This pregnancy was not as symptomatic as the last one, but the longer it went on the more her grip on reality felt as it was slipping. Alanna did her best to fight onwards against her body and on the battlefield because she felt if she did anything else she might go insane. Alanna might not be in complete control of her body, but she has a horse and a sword and a clear enemy. Alanna exercises control over what she can. The control she gains is not enough, but it is something.
Alanna is pregnant again, this time by the Gods demand. It is not easier the second time around.

Summary
You first meet each other all the way back when you are both new and barely done training, still in it really. He is loud and brash, you were put with him to be a “level head” as your instructors put it. The two of you must have worked well together because the instructors kept putting you with Tom. Years later the two are put together once more; you will be a team and work together to pilot a GAUS unit, an extremely new, technically temperamental and huge machine. You are to navigate and Tom will pilot. Once again becoming each other’s shadows when possible and navigating the GAUS makes for an enjoyable assignment.
The year you turn 27 the assignment gets a whole lot more interesting and dangerous. You win while the rest of the world cannot seem to manage to.
