*Written mostly before I watched the latest season, but I did some adjusting to make it fit.*
After everything that's happened with the pillars and his conflicting emotions about Monkey King, Macaque decides to take a small sabbatical to check on his theater and dojo. He's been away from it for a long while since living on Flower Fruit Mountain and he needs a bit of time to sort out these weird, conflicting, and quite frankly terrifying emotions he has going on towards a particular FFM resident.
He's... Still not sure where he stands with the great sage. So for now, he plans on doing what he does best. Avoiding his problems. He just doesn't expect that on week three of avoiding the issue he would end up adopting a random white furred monkey demon cub. One that looks haunting like it might actually be his with an extra set of ears and everything. But he thinks he would have remembered giving birth to a cub, so that's literally impossible.
But he doesn't mind letting everyone else think that.

To be honest ,this sucked ,his knees already hurt from being on the floor for so long,wukongs grip on his hip is like iron and his back is starting to ache,yet there was something so good about this, he just couldn’t tell what.
whatever it was, it was enough to create a pool of warmth on his lower stomach, ready to snap any moment, It seems like Wukong felt the same,his pace faltering once in a while as he speeds up, the breathing that filled the room now quicker.Macaque wishes he didn’t like it.

Macaque and Wukong decide to take out their frustration on the other through sex, what they both didn't expect though, was for Macaque to realize his fear of the sage AFTER already sleeping with him.

Macaque dies and the world continues without him, or so it should have.
Instead, he wakes at the edge of everything, in a kingdom that has forgotten its purpose. Diyu stands fractured and hollow, its gates unmoving, its rulers gone, its silence filled only with the weight of those who were never meant to remain.
The dead linger.
They ache. They fade. They wait.
The underworld reaches for him; it binds and settles, attaching itself to his very core.
And Macaque, who was never meant to be anything more than a passing soul, becomes something else entirely.
Not a king, nor a god, but something quieter. Something that endures what should not endure.
Or
Wukong kills Macaque, Macaque does not like that and throws a rampage in the underworld. He somehow becomes the ruler of Diyu and now that’s he’s in charge shits about to get real.

“You don’t want to do this,” the king teased, slowly starting to circle around to the side.
“What, confident you’ll win?” the shadow purred, matching him step for step. His heart was pounding, giddy with the coming spar. He could hear the other’s hearts as well, drumming along, fast and excited. “Don’t be so cocky, Sun. I know you. Remember?” He couldn’t count the hours he’d spent training with the other. Playing, sparring, fighting, constant contact, until he knew the king’s ins and outs as intrinsically as he knew his own.
“And I know you, Liu’er,” Sage reminded him, teeth glinting in the light. “Don’t be so smug. But, say you win. What do you get?”
Mihou grinned. “I want you to surprise me with something nice, not a quick kiss or something light. Show me you know me. And, I think you mean *when* I win.”Or: Extremely self indulgent fic where au Macaque (Mihou) gets all the attention from his husband Wukong (Sage) I crave but can't get 🥲 (I'm so lonely. Summary
Wukong and Macaque had a turbulent relationship shrouded by a past of anger and distrust. For all the right reasons, Macaque cannot stand him, and he likes to make sure everyone knows that whenever he's given the opportunity. Yet somehow, against all odds, he finds himself by his side once more. Macaque can hardly believe it either, but one of Wukong's many talents has always been managing to shove himself into his life, so he can't really say he's surprised to still gravitate toward him even after everything they've been through.
Or, a very, very painful reconciliation in parts.

Hate is the only thing Macaque knows. He hates Wukong, he hates the Celestial Realm, and he hates himself. His hate has eaten at his heart, tearing away whatever good is still left in there. The only thing that remains is the loneliness of hell and cold, black hate.
Perhaps what Macaque hates above all else is how he’s fallen for Wukong again.
Macaque will drown himself in his hate, because it’s so much easier to hate than it is to love the one person who hurt him the most.

It would explain everything! The overheating, the cravings, the magic issues, even the vague sense of ‘want’ that’s plaguing him. And if he’s just now developing his monkey traits, then he’d have surely developed this too.
He’s in heat. It makes perfect sense.
But wow, poor kid. Macaque winces in sympathy for when he has to tell him what’s wrong, and knowing he’ll then have to explain in awful, terrible detail how to deal with it, winces in sympathy for himself. But still, his heart goes out for MK, knowing first-hand how damning and demanding the season for them can be.
Thank gods Macaque doesn’t have to deal with those anymore.
