Summary
Higuruma was itchy. His whole body was covered in a sheen of sweat but his mouth was dry as sand. That woman, the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen, his colleague, was speaking with Nanami. The most beautiful man he’d ever seen. Delicate hand on his bicep and laughing lightly at his jokes. They were both mere feet from him, just across their table in the bar booth.

Summary
For a second, Katara is helpless. No bending, no running, not when she’s trying to pull air into her lungs, feeling the world spin nauseatingly around her.
That’s all Zuko needs.
He pins her with a truly insulting ease, grabbing her wrists to hold both down, and she is well and truly caught. She glares up at him – he is soaked from the water she has been throwing at him, but his golden eyes are glaring right back at her, and there’s that sneering curl to his lip that makes her want to dump half the ocean on his head.
He leans down and she can feel the heat of his breath in her ear.
“Leaving so soon?” he hisses.
***
OR: Zuko captures Katara, and imprisons her on his ship to use as bait to try to capture Aang.
No plan truly survives contact with the enemy. And this plan… goes absolutely sideways.

Summary
Zuko has not known real peace since the day he faced his sister in the Last Agni Kai many years ago.
No matter how many times he tried to bury them, his feelings for a particular waterbender refused to fade. At every shared meal with the Gaang, every sparring match in a courtyard, and every visit to the Fire Palace, he found himself hoping, just once, that her eyes would meet his and reignite the spark that had flared the moment he took Azula's lightning for her... but they never did.
Her gaze always found Aang's instead. And, as time went on, Zuko taught himself to look away — for their sake, and for the fragile balance of their friendship. The Avatar and the healer, bound together as if by fate.
But when Katara comes to the Fire Nation during a quiet break from Aang, the Fire Lord begins to notice something he hadn't allowed himself to see before. Whenever he looked away...
She always looked back.
(Set 10 years after the Hundred Year War, Post-Canon)
